Dear Dr. I am 75 yrs old in sept. I take my blood sugar always before breakfast. (Fasting) it it is always around 95 to 140 depends if I eat late. My timing for dinner is between 7 to 7-30 pm. I believe that after lunch or dinner the sugar level goes a bit higher. I eat a tiny meal and I am 5.8” in height and I weigh 155 lbs. Is it ok what I am doing? I am more on veggies and fruit but don’t have much appetite. And I am on Metformin 1000 one in the afternoon and one in the night. Is it too much. And the doc had also told me to take Amaryl 2 before breakfast. But I take it after breakfast. Does the reading Upto 180 comes under the normal side. Coz my glucometer tells when it is low normal or high. I don’t go now too much to diabetic docs as they make life easier for themselves and straight away put you on insulin. I live alone and so I needed your advise. I live in India. Mumbai. Sorry for the inconvenience. I follow you religiously. Thank you. Expecting a reply from you.
I'm not diabetic or even pre-diabetic, but I'm terrified of getting diabetes due to a close family member getting it. How often should I check my sugar?
My sugar usually runs 70-100 is that normal before meal and sometimes after meal why is that
Hello Doc. Ahmet and thanks for what you do.
My fasting blood sugar this morning was 104. Took a 30 minute walk and measured after another 30 minutes and it dropped to 100. Just before eating at noon, measured it again and it had dropped to 90. Had curry chicken with little bit of bulgur and with lemon water and waited one hour after eating. It dropped to 83. Does this sound reasonable? It seems to be opposite. I am not diabetic and I do intermittent fasting.
Thank you
blood sugar should be tested when ever you want to test a hypothesis e.g. I feel hungry if I stay awake for over 4 hours after dinner. On a few occasions I would have another mini dinner and sometimes I would sleep even when I was hungry. When I checked the fasting sugar I found that it was lower when I had a mini dinner and higher when I slept feeling hungry. This is paradoxical but my firm belief is that sleeping hungry will result in weight loss and better management of diabetes in the long run.
What do you say?
Can drinking water prevent diabetes?
Depend on your diet. Cut carbs and sugar. Just got a meter and my son was 255 (22 yrs old) last night. He is on a bodybuilder diet with high carbs and 7 meals a day. Mine was 96 because I have been on a clean keto diet. Read Grain Brain and it will change your opinion on this topic.
I listen to this & want to cry. I've never been told anything about this. My dietary teaching was "don't eat any sugary foods". They never said anything about testing at different times so I test every morning. When I ask about my fluctuations they just say "oh that happens at times. We just go by the average numbers." I ask for help & more info & just get drugs to take. For which most medications I get causes problems with the reactions I get. With a couple of the meds I told them several times about my reactions & they kept telling me "oh that'll go away with time." Then after a long time, sometimes years of severe reactions, they'll switch me to something else. That's happened several times now. I wish I would have discovered your videos a long long time ago. Thank you.
This is very useful; it now fixes our routine testing – thanks Dr. Ergin… by the way, all your videos are very relevant and it opens up a lot of new ideas which we have taken for granted before.
When talking about diabetic readings use BOTH metrics AT ALL TIMES don't just use one over the other as a default. Your videos are watched world wide – yes?
Take readings before breakfast and then two hours after every meal – is this ok?
It gets me a bit nervous to take my fast acting insulin before bed if my numbers are a bit high, should I be or take it anyway?
