This is true. A close friend of mine, whose sugar free diet was made up of beef, chicken, pork, eggs suffered from unbearable large fibroids. She never had or wanted to try tofu or vegan protein. She had to have her uterus removed due to the complications of the large fibroids. On the hand, my diet consisted of legumes, edamame, tofu, soy milk, salads and other vegetables and fruits and is fibroid free. We are the same age.
NOT sure how's bias us the sampling taken. I'm an Asian woman with fibroid, soy intake had indeed impact my period pain(due by fibroid enlarge) and my condition improve as and when I stop soy based protein.
Amen

Please see this study: "Adult Ovarian Function Can Be Affected by High Levels of Soy," https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3139237.
This video is wrong. Study me! I've been a vegan for more than two decades and I would eat about a pound of tofu (14 ounce packs plus drink soy milk) about four to five days a week for years! My periods worsened when I was close to 40. I told my former gynecologist about my soy intake and she said that it only applies if you eat a lot of soy … I thought, "well, I do eat a lot of soy," but still went with and lived by her comments. I continued to eat nearly a pound of soy almost every day of the week.
Earlier this year, I had my first blood transfusion because my periods had gotten so heavy from my fibroids. A new gynecologist put two-and-two together and told me that I should reduce my soy. She was right. I reduced and finally had a normal period. When I decided to have a yogurt made from soy milk, I bled uncontrollably again.
Thank you, because I was really over here sad with the idea of possibly having to give up edamame lol I don't feel that I consume excessive amounts of soy, but I like to snack on edamame daily.
Is soy milk safe for mens?
You sounded unsure of yourself while narrating this video. So what are the facts regarding fibroids & soy?
Am henry from vegas, I am testifying about a great hebal man that cured my wife of fibroid, his name is Dr osaze. My wife was diagnose of fibroid two years ago, i almost spent all i had then, until i saw dr Osaze's recommendation online, and i call him, then he told me how to get the herb. You can call him on +2347089275769 or email him at drosaze39@gmail.com
Well I have to say that becoming vegan cured my fibroids and thus changed my life. I went from having 10 day heavy periods to 4 day periods that are lighter than they’ve ever been in my life.
Dr Greger is it true that it is Not the soy that's bad but the Residue from the extra pesticide that GMO soy contains? These pesticides are the culprit behind the bad estrogens just like plastic residues that are also ubiquitous.
I have fibroids and stopped soy when I saw a definite cause and effect between eating tofu and having symptoms. For years I didn't believe it but recently there was no denying it so I've cut out all soy. The estrogenic effect is very real but maybe not from the beneficial plant estrogens but from the artificial estrogens from the Round Up used on GMO soy? My guess is that soy that hasn't been modified to resist Round Up (so they can drench it in pesticide and not kill it) is actually very good for you right? Tofu is processed and so concentrated but the whole plant should be healthy just like lentils and other plant-estrogen foods… if it weren't for the artificial estrogens of the pesticides… anyway no soy for me.
I really wasn't sure where to post this.
I was diagnosed in December of severe iron deficiency anemia. (My doctor doesn't feel that it's from my new vegetarian diet.). However, my nutritionist feels that I should be incorporating meat back into my diet, as she said she's never seen iron levels so low. (I know they exist.). My ferritin was undetectable in December. Through supplementation with 150mg of elemental iron, and an iron-rich vegetarian diet, I've only managed to raise it to 3. Would you please do a video on battling anemia on a vegetarian/vegan diet? (I'd been pescatarian – though mostly vegetarian – since October, and went full vegetarian in February or March. I rarely drink milk, or consume cheese, but I will if I'm not at home.)
Thanks so much for this! As a black woman who has fibroids and is vegan, i was really contemplating changing my diet because of my soy intake. Very helpful!!
Thank you, Dr. Gregor! I’ve have fibroids can’t pinpoint when they developed. Had the UFE procedure which did not work and will probably have to have hysterectomy since my cycle is debilitating. My mom and sister have had hysterectomy. So, when I consume soy products my breasts become excruciatingly tender but I don’t notice anything with my cycle. When I consume meat however, cycle symptoms such as clots, cramps, fatigue increase. I have not had meat in two years and the symptoms have subsided. Yay! But, the fatigue during that time has not. Still experimenting with foods to figure out how to rectify it all. Your books and videos have helped, tremendously.
I guess this looooong response is for anyone who might not know that reducing their meat intake may alleviate fibroid symptoms.
P.S. I loan out your book to all my friends. Right now a colleague who has just started meds for high blood pressure has it. I know she’ll learn a lot from the book! ❤️
Oh man! u r killing me with the no beer, how about soy beer! dealcoholized
sign: gal who loves her beer
I have to point this out. That last study showing no association with soy consumption and fibroids used menopausal women. Fibroids do not usually grow in menopausal women. In fact, they often shrink. A more helpful population to study would have been pre-menopausal women.
Long live Dr Greger
The only soy I consume is the Nama Shoyu soy sauce only on occasion. I must say that when i have intentionally added soy to my vegan plant based diet, I notice hot flashes. I seriously do not get them any other time. This has happened to me every time. I seem to do ok with a small amount of the soy sauce once in a while.
What's with the flaxseed part? Is flaxseed okay cuz I put it in my smoothies everyday.
I have uterine fibroids and notice I cramp a significant amount more at all times of month when I consume more soy
I also get bad headaches when I consume tofu, soy milk or other strong soy products. I still think plant based diets are best. But I do think I seem to have a sensitivity to soy. My husband tolerates soy just fine.
So people that eat soy generally eat healthier than meat eaters. Since it was the same as bad eaters then soy is just as bad as meat for fibroids. Avoid high protein of any kind.
Black people most likely consume very little Soy Milk. That stuff is marketed to white women who watch "This Is Us" or like Amy Schumer and SATC reruns.
Blacks consume an abundance of Soybean Oil. Why?
Well first of all, blacks consume more fast food and Soybean Oil is added to everything from the hamburger bun to the special sauce to the fryer.
Black neighborhoods have lots of fried chicken joints like Kennedy Fried Chicken and Crown Fried Chicken in NYC.
Soybean oil and other industrial seed oils are a major source of fat for all Americans but blacks in particular. As we have replaced animal fat with these vegetable oils, look what has happened. But we'll always blame the beef.
Can you pls do a video on the effects of overeating?
You do too many videos for women.
Hi Dr. Greger. Thank you and your staff. I keep hearing that soy is only okay if it is fermented and is otherwise toxic and has anti nutrients or something. Is this true? Can you or have you addressed this? Thanks!
USA grown and Non GMO soy & corn
I had fibroids the size of a 22 week pregnancy and bled so much that I became severely anemic. Doctors all pushed a hysterectomy but my older sister had that surgery with some negative outcomes. I had Acessa surgery using radiofrequency ablation in February 2018 and uterus is expected to continue to shrink in the months ahead. The level of doctor ignorance concerning fibroids is discouraging and I appreciate these videos that look at the science concerning fibroids.
I'm pretty sure I had undiagnosed fibroids, but everything totally went back to normal the moment I switched to eating plants. Better than normal, in fact…for the first time ever in my life. I consume a moderate amount of soy every day and things have only improved.
Was that second last study funded by the dairy industry by any chance?
Only fermented soy foods should be consumed, all other soy products are not good for you. However this video is useless because fibroids are related to iodine deficiency more than anything else.
Soy has become a devil because it’s a direct threat to animal parts and animal liquid business . People are sos cared of it and then drink milk and eat burgers . I remind them that soy is a bean . And we are told to eat more beans .
Don’t be a soy boy or girl for that matter.
