Thank you Dr. Greger for all the fascinating information. We drink lots of water throughout the day and also take water with us to bed. Not sure how this helps, but so far neither my wife or I are on any prescribed or over the counter medications. Dr. Batmanghelidj has written several books on water and it too is fascinating to know how water can also prevent us from many of our present day chronic diseases. Hope this helps. I dont know why but when i get dehidration i dont feel exhausted.. I can not drink a water unti 2 days without feel im exhausted. I also have depression, anxiety, paranoia. And hard to focus or understanding on something.. I have try many thing to cure this seek. But no one is success. Until oneday i try to drink enough water and make this as a routine. The result. Without im realise.. The depression, anxiety is gone. So now im think the thing that make me depression is because i lack of drinking water. So for all of u guys who have anixety,depression. Try drinking enough water everyday and see the miracle.. XD sory my bad english

this is defintely true for the past few days well actually more like months, I was feeling very sluggish tired and very irritable and confused, then I decided to drink a lot of water then the symptoms just completely faded, like I feel more relaxed and less stressed and generally more happy, but I think the best way to describe the feeling of dehydration is that you feel very zombie like,
Extremely useful and helpful information. I suffered depression episodes off and on in the past, but I only recently discovered that I was chronically dehydrated. In hindsight, it made perfect sense considering how much caffeine I drank (soda/energy drinks) relative to water. When I started hydrating more, my depression rapidly decreased in severity; it felt almost too good to be true… but alas.
I recommend the book, "You're Not Sick, You're Thirsty!" by F. Batmanghelidj. Br. Batman recommends taking your body weight in pounds, dividing it by 2. The result is the number of ounces of water you should drink daily. Example: weight = 160 pounds divided by 2 = 80 ounces of water daily, or 10 8 oz. cups per day.
i noticed this recently…. its so true! I'm cranky when I'm thirsty same goes for when I'm hungry lol
Drunk people always seem quite happy and they must be pretty dehydrated!

I drink like 6 liters of water a day, maybe that's why I always have the best grades in my class hehe

Interesting. This is the first I've ever heard of cold water being more beneficial, usually it's been more to the contrary.
I drink distilled water and I really don't think anyone should pay much attention to the myth of losing vital minerals.

Urine is not the only means the body employs to excrete water, what about respiration where the humidified air is expelled and perspiration where water is used for thermo regulation ?
Additionally, consumption of excessive amounts of water can have it's own list of adverse health impacts.
What is an easy self assessment that would indicate when a person has sufficient , neither too low or too high, of water ?
Any thoughts on vega protein powder or any type of plant-based protein powder?

Good info. Â Thank you for the "dehydration formula". Â Another way to tell if you're hydrated is to watch the color intensity of your urine. Â The lighter, the better and more hydrated you are. Â Ideal is almost clear with only a very light pale yellow tinge. Â Darker means that you need more water.

Well, when I drink water I usually pee it 10-15min after. Must be hydrated.

This is sooo true to me!! I know immediately when I need to drink water ASAP or I'll start getting extremely cranky and can't concentrate as I can feel a migraine coming. I always had a water bottle with me at all times. But I didn't know cold water gets into the system faster!! I'm always complaining the water is too cold and can't drink it fast enough!!!! Haha thanks for sharing đŸ™‚
