I just baked a yam then ate it with cinnamon for my midnight snack before finding and watching this video.
I just microwave mine. My dog lives mostly on sweet potatoes and I love them too. I just don't have time to boil them usually but I may try to change that. Maybe boil several at a time and just nuke them for 30 seconds before eating…
Hello! I understood that deep frying is not good due to acrylamide, but what about the Coffe? on How Not To Die its said that coffe is a good beverage. Is it or not?
Is this the same with other types of tubers? Is boiling my potatoes instead of baking them going to result in more available nutrients?
Thanks Doc. Great work!
I recently ate raw sweet potato and liked it, is eating them this way as nutritious? Thank you so much, your website and videos are fantastic, so helpful.
I actually remember watching this video when it first came out but had obviously forgotten the advice about boiling sweet spuds as I steam all my veggies as I thought that was best in general. I'll start boiling my sweet potatoes and steam the rest over them from now on!.Thanks Dr G!
Baking it rubbed in oil, salt and pepper is the best for flavour.
What about InstaPot?
Another informative video. Thanks Dr Gregor. Sadly I probably should stay away from one of my favourite Japanese restaurant dishes then – vegetable tempura.

If I had a life supply of sweet potatoes I could eat them all day everyday. They give me a warm feeling inside like I'm being loved.
Is steaming or cooking in a pressure cooker the same as boiling though?
I boil my home grown sweet potatoes with the skin and then drink the hot water they were cooking in . Muahauahaha
Sadly for me, i love mine raw and shredded or sliced thinly, sprinkled over my green leafy's over my salads. Usually I allow the potato to marinate for several hours in a lemon dressing such as tahini, to aid in breaking down the cell walls. Now I have to rethink my potato consumption.
So, Sweet Potato toast is a bad idea? Shame.
DJ who comments on my channel ate 8 lb of sweet potatoes for dinner and then 8 more pounds for breakfast the next day.
Oil the skins with a little oil. Bake in 350 degrees F for 1 hour. Do eat the skins which are yummy and full of vitamins. Garnet sweet potatoes are the best.
I was steaming in the instant pot , they cook really fast have to watch them .
LOL, what an loser,
boiling anything loses all the nutrients in the water
I steam them.
I love mashed sweet potatoes, I add cinnamon and cloves to boost antioxidants.
lol – I can't stand sweet potatoes – my mom made them all the time and my family loves them but I could never put enough "junk" on it to kill the taste – same with green peas … YUK – (just so you know I am not a white potato lover either but do enjoy them from time to time)
I microwave them whole, they always come out perfectly tender and tasty. Let them set several minutes before cutting open the skin, and the steam trapped inside moistens the flesh. Yummy baked sweet potatoes. Bonus, add cinnamon and peanut butter. Thank me later. . .
boiling sweet potatoes as we speak!
Lol! Love it!!! 🙂
:OOOOOOO I can't belive this! I want the blueberry level sweet potato now
Eat them Raw. I blend them with smoothies or make raw sticks and dip with organic peanut butter or something. Raw is always healthier. Living food high in Enzymes, Bio-photons, More Nutritious, Phytochemicals, everything is in tact and molecular structure is in harmony with our body when raw ect… our body will have to work and use minimal resources. When we cook or manipulate nature our body needs to work harder thus we age faster. This is why also eating less meals a day promotes longevity as whenever we are not eating we are fasting thus release more HGH(Human Growth Hormone). When we cook or manipulate the molecular structure our body has to use more of our own resources/reserves thus work more to compensate the missing enzymes/chemicals that are destroyed via cooking. Of course cooking is a major part in our society but you can get by and live such a sharper, more alive, lighter and more efficient life if you do at least mostly RAW and some Cooked. You will notice quite the difference if you eat all raw vs all cooked. Try it for few weeks. You will always have the urge to go back to RAW once you get a taste of nature at its finest.
What about sautéing sweet potatoes?
I love sweet potatoes no matter how the fixed except I do not fry them
I was wondering if you ever cover the topic of Oxalate impact on overall health
Dang I always bake mine — I stopped enjoying the taste of boiled sweet potatoes some time ago for some reason 🙁
Thank you Dr McGregor! A very useful video, I love sweet potato! I am curious though, since I like to steam my sweet potatoes as well as blend them up into soups, is there any evidence to suggest whether these methods of cooking them are beneficial over boiling? And yes I leave the skin on, that’s the best part
Great video, but the best way is to ferment them. Nice try though.
