Counter question: Would you let Asian food for yourself be ruined just because a jumping jack gave it a bad rating or just criticized it?
Solution: don't let them "lead" what you have to like and what you not have to like.
Man that was a worm. Periodt.
Are you going to Thailand with your brother???
Im so mad at this dude. He dissed oakland and left after 3 restaurants and then dismissing the Bay. Now he is dismissing sushi and causing the restaurant to close.
I've had spot prawn so fresh it was still moving, they snapped the head off, and made my nigiri right away. The best way to eat it!
*I'm not sure if I'd eat anything with worms/parasites tho… I get scales, and bones sometimes, but that acceptable is small busy places. High end places take their time, it's more of an art to them.
Unless the raw fish was somehow still alive, no, it shouldn't be moving. You'd think the sushi chef would have known something was moving prior to packing it unless the intention was to pull off a practical joke. And the restaurant should still be held liable for this given the potential threat to customers.
He had every right to give his honest take on the food regardless of whether his review was positive or negative. This is a serious health matter. Someone could've passed away from eating contaminated food. If the spot is forced to shutter business, so be it. Can't allow these incidents to go unchecked.
Obviously this shouldn't dissuade people from eating sushi ever again. One bad anecdote doesn't represent all of Japanese cuisine, just like how those Indian street food stalls with questionable hygienic practices shouldn't dissuade people from trying Indian food.
Why would he take it down if that was his genuine reaction and opinion? There was nothing inaccurate about it nor did he regret anything he said. Should we hide the truth from people if the truth might harm someone's bottom line?
I’ve had FOB poke many times in Bellevue. Was always fresh. This is sad.
People who don't eat sushi just won't eat it.
The Restaurant should have followed health guidelines.
Anyone who eats sushi on the regular should already know what to look for when they're eating raw food.
I eat sushi but I don't f* with buffets. And I think Buffets should be the losers in this battle, not sushi
The girlfriend who got sick is probably a bigger issue than Keith's video.
E-Coli is not from fish, unless cross contaminated with raw beef handling….raw spinach and other similar produce…..or worst, the guys handling food didn't wash hands properly after taking a dump!
That was no worm. Obvious it was done by the chopsticks. He moved, it moved. A piece of fish flesh hanging off the bottom.
good!!
it obviously moved whats the point of defending this
That is a worm.
Sushi is one of the foods that has been hyped so much and if this deters people then good cuz sushi shouldn’t cost as much as it should in some parts in the cities.
im a big FOB sushi fan. I will still support them
there is a reason why disclaimers are all over seafood shops. you go in blindly. you will be surprised.
Moving food means it is really fresh. It doesn't bother me
FDA guidelines state that farm-raised salmon DOES NOT have to be flash frozen since farmed salmon are fed with fish pellets. Wild salmon feed on smaller fish that are contaminated with parasites. When wild salmon eat prey fish in the open waters, the worms enter the salmon through their stomachs. In the video, it looks like he's eating raw salmon. He may be eating wild-caught salmon that has not been properly frozen or flash-frozen! Anyone who wants to challenge me to the FDA guidelines about FARM-RAISED salmon should look it up before commenting. Google: FDA FOOD CODE CHAPTER 3-402.11 section B. Make sure you look up FARM-RAISED or AQUA-CULTURED, not WILD-CAUGHT. FDA mandates that all wild-caught salmon must be flash-frozen before serving. Since farmed-raised salmon is virtually safe to eat raw without flash freezing, many Americans especially local Hawaiians make homemade sushi from salmon purchased from COSTCO! You can look this up on YouTube, search COSTCO SUSHI.
Poor Vincent Chen – the owner of this restaurant
Black people love to target Asians. This isn’t new
Another example of a black man beating up on Asian.
Most Japanese restaurants/stores outside of Japan aren't even operated by Japanese ppl. Many of them go out of their way to seem like they're actually Japanese too instead of taking pride in their own heritage. Other ethnicities make Italian food but they don't try to pretend they're Italian.
Sushi restaurants not making sure of no worms ruin it.
Only in America
No, he did not ruin sushi. The greedy Asians trying to start the business and make money off the food are at fault. Here's a good clue. If no real Japanese people are eating there, then it probably isn't culturally Japanese authentic. The place probably has no qualified licensed sushi chef that learned the art from Japan.
I see now sushi is not good taste, bcuz worms still there, that's true
This is more of a problem of where he ate. As long as you go to a place that properly inspects and cleans their food, this isn't a problem. There's a reason why it's called sushi grade fish.
To answer the question, no Lee didn't ruin sushi. He ate sushi at a place that didn't clean the food properly and sadly that place will be impacted by this. As a sushi lover, this won't change my love of the food. But I hope other sushi spots do pay more attention when they prepare their raw foods. Now, non sushi fans will likely shy away from it and will never try it.
I love sushi and asians .
Most sushi is flash frozen which kills parasites. The cooked meat that was recalled for listeria was only refrigerated not frozen.
