So after 6 months WFPB I cheked my lipids this morning. Pretty bad. Low HDL, high LDL, high total cholesterol. I gained 1 kg body weight. BUT … my fasting glycemia dropped form a 135 to a 105. So I'm not pre-diabetic any longer. That's what literature says. Plant Based is not that good for cholesterol, strokes, etc. And it's for sure not a magical remedy for overweight.

The lower test for natural body builders before a show is because of the low body fat percentage,

Hey Dr. Greger. I have a very strange question for ya. Do you know anything about potentially harmful chemicals in toilet paper? I'm wonderin' cause I've seen reports of some women getting infections from certain kinds of TP.

    Thanks,

I found the parts about experimenting on urban, poor, Black women and about how what a pregnant woman eats can affect her grandchildren to be pretty concerning and disturbing. Thank you for the info.

Come on Dr Gregor…the body builders have low T prior to competition because they are cutting down to below 10% body fat, not because they are eating animal protein!

Higher cortisol levels after eating meat could be due to the commonly used slaughter methods.

Bodybuilders get low test before a competition because they get to extremely low body fat levels. Love your work doc, but please revise.

High-protein prevents a good body fat ? You can check people who eat more protein are less fat so I am not agree on this point

It would be interesting to see if high amounts of plant protein would also have the same effect

Dr. Greger misrepresents the drop in testosterone levels due to a high animal protein intake by using the study titled "Natural Bodybuilding Competition Preparation and Recovery: A 12-Month Case Study". This is a study done on one individual who had a massive drop in T- levels as he was cutting to his stage weight. The reason his T-levels dropped so low was not because of his high protein intake, but because the guy was sub 5% body fat and was on the verge of starving to death by the end of his bodybuilding prep.. The subject's T-levels dropped massively 3 months into the cut when he was below 9% body fat. This is a normal reaction to a lack of calories no matter what your diet looks like. I appreciate Dr. Greger and the team at nutritionfacts but they all missed the ball on this one.

Wow! so much studies bashing the meat industry. I wonder if meat should be taken off the food guide? What are your thoughts?

Perhaps the negative effects are a result from the "couple of Ensures daily" maybe those chemical drinks are toxic ??

This could play a role in why my 4 year old daughter, eating a plant based diet for almost her entire life, is a little overweight. During pregnancy I wasn't vegan yet. Quite the opposite unfortunately. At the doctor's office I was even encouraged to eat red meat, to avoid iron deficiency. Now I know better, eating 100% vegan, 85% whole foods.
