imprison mr Deese
Also Jeffery Epstein and John McAfee didn't kill themselves
I wouldn't mind the empty shelves in the US so much, if they filled them with ammo.
Recently the WHO outlawed breast feeding in African countries. Almost immediately, Biden sent tons of baby formula to Africa, in the middle of America's shortages. But even so, the catch 22 is that it still wasn't enough.
Sounds like a good idea, with the best of intentions, but produced unintended consequences.
I WAS BORN IN TX , BUT MY PARANTS MOVED TO LOUISANA WHEN I WAS A BABY . MY MOM COULDN'T BREAST FEED SO SHE TRIED ME ON FORMULA & I KEPT THROWING IT UP , SO MY GRANDPARANTS WOULD MILK A GOAT & THE MILK STAYED DOWN & I THRIVED ! SO IF YOU CAN'T FIND FORMULA TRY GOATS MILK ? YOU NEVER KNOW IT MAY HELP YOUR BABY ? I KNOW I'VE SEEN IT ON THE GROCERY SHELVES AT HEB FOOD STORES , WHO KNOWS IT MIGHT BE AT OTHER STORES ?
The government will bash your knees with a baseball bat, just to heroically give you free (read: taxpayer-funded) crutches and leg casts.
Not supporting manufacturing at home is part of the cause of the IC shortage that is hampering production of almost everything, since domestic production cannot be ramped up because it doesn't exist. The unrestrained free market, unfavorable tax and regulatory structures at home, and government incentives abroad pulled IC manufacturing out of this country. Now we are paying the price. Even some defense products can't be made because every IC has a 26+ week lead time.
A purely free market solution at home is not effective when dealing abroad, especially when dealing with adversarial authoritarian regimes.
Luckily for us, corn and wheat production can't be offshored to China, so we can at least eat (if the farmers and truckers can afford diesel).
As with all things, balance is required. Let the market go free when possible, but don't let our own production be destroyed by subsidized international competition.
Saying a free market in baby formula would prevent the current shortage ignores that said free market could also produce the same situation we have with ICs.
There is no need to remove the tariffs. The tariffs do not make the product too expensive to compete in the US market. The tariffs make the imported products the SAME price as the US market. The problem with most imported products is that they priced far cheaper than US products thus forcing US companies out of business. People get confused between COST and MARKET PRICE. While the tariffs and shipping may reduce the profit margin of the foreign company, they can still make a substantial profit. The labeling requirement is so insignificant it is mute. However, the inspections required by the US do cost money to perform. It is odd that any company would not already be performing such food safety inspections. Obviously, the foreign company is not killing babies in its own country but how do we prevent them from dump shipping product that cannot be sold in their country to the US? Inspections. There is good reason for some regulation but far too often, decades of government bloat have caused the regulations to deviate substantially from their original purpose.
Biden butt head is giving our stuff to illegal aliens.
If Libertarian Purists got their way, then literally everything sold in America would be of Chinese origin because "Free Markets" and the fact that China brutalizes its worker base with near slave labor wages, working conditions, hours and state surveillance which the US can't, won't and shouldn't compete with to that extreme. And with no other options for goods and services, China would dictate US Policy and individual lifestyles from the inside out. Much of our policy already is currently dictated by China because, unbeknownst, China owns too many politicians to count (as well as US CEO's, academics and NBA stars, etc). How would that be an American Libertarian value should it come to full fruition? People "owned by proxy" with or without their knowledge or consent?
Government has its fundamental purpose which should remain a duty to serve the vast majority of the Nation's population while protecting the individual in basic human rights, security, liberties and freedoms to equal effect and balance with that of select interest groups, institutions and businesses. To that degree, one should be aligned with moderate Libertarianism, but never to Purist levels.
Not a mystery at all. One needs to look no further than the corrupt and treasonous Democrat Party. All about power and control over the people. They are evil, they are extremely sinister and they are the enemy of the people.
So why did US manufacturers suddenly run out?
All these shortages are manufactured for higher profit
Why is Reason ignoring the fact that Biden sent tons of much needed baby formula to Ukraine, thus creating or at least pushing the shortage? Why are we sending much needed goods overseas when its needed here at home? I feel like this is an incredibly important point we are missing
It is false to call global trade a free market when countries like China are engaging in protection practices and forced IP sharing. If the US abandoned all protectionism based tariffs, then yes it would make supply shortages less likely in the short term; however, in the long term it would render the US even further dependent on hostile nations. Pick your poison
Promoting economic and material self sufficiency within our nation is a good idea. It makes it harder for a future enemy/crisis to cause supply problems. But there are wrong ways to do it. Clearly what we are doing now is not the right way and I think my Senator, Josh Hawley, was also not making a good suggestion.
The problem, as always, with this is that you are presenting a rational solution for politicians who thrive on irrationality and sentimentality
Meanwhile $40 billion to Ukraine… man the Democrats are getting it in the butt in November
We, the citizens, are not the priority of our government (the DNC and RNC).
On Wednesday two weeks ago, my friend got a call from a Publix that they had the formula needed for her sister. I drove her across Orlando to pick up a pallet of 400 dollars worth of of formula for her sister. It was a 2 months supply, my mom had to pay 200 dollars worth of baby forula because they did not have any of the right formula in western PA.
I can understand industrial nationalism for the military and resource extraction, where reliance on foreign companies could be an actual security risk. But for everything else? It only serves to create monopolies and drive prices up.
Stossel did a better report on this a few days earlier: https://youtu.be/BGV8Cb6YCR4
Clearly, just the fact that baby formula is normally locked in a glass case at the store indicates there's a problem here. The baby formula companies have also created problems by trying to introduce their product in poorer countries as a superior alternative to breast milk and babies have gotten sick because of contaminated water. This is an example where profit motive can have negative consequences.
There is value for protectionism. The US has a policy to protect its food supply to ensure that's domestically produced. Globalism is great when everyone is playing nice but look at the Tiawan and Ukraine supply concerns.
Newsflash, this just in: human babies are mammals, meaning their mothers come equipped with the ability to make their own "formula." If you don't already know this, you failed high school biology & need to go back to school…
Does anyone think republicans support central planning to any comparable scale as democrats do?
Why are mothers not NURSING THEIR BABIES!!!
What is the matter with the World?
MOTHER'S milk is what GOD ALMIGHTY intended.
Why are MOTHER'S not NURSING THEIR BABIES?
Because 4 infants were sick, an entire factory was shut down, causing a far greater problem than the original problem of contamination.
Nobody in the Biden admin is competent enough to realize the effect of the FDA shutting down the plant and preemptively work to avert the crisis.
Remember what our founding fathers based our current government on the ancient Romans what happened to them? They were surrounded and therefore in supply of food vaporized basically they were starved into surrendering and that’s how Rome fell no internals food supply
I can see both sides of this argument on one side yes European baby formula is safe and Cody easily come in but on the flipside we need to keep those dairy farmers in business for several reasons one national security we need a supply of food at home we’re already losing 1000 for farmers a year and realize a lot of you suck at growing your own food
This piece is completely missing the point. This shortage is there because there is too little regulation. You had a plant which ended up having to do a recall because there was no oversight of their operations and they cut corners causing the death of 4 children.
You have very few manufacturers because in a completely free capitalist system without proper antitrust controls monopolies form and production gets concentrated in the hands of few manufacturers, which is exactly what's happened in the US. In the case of one manufacturer having an issue the entire formula supply was disrupted.
This problem didn't arise because capitalism functioned as expected.
For a properly functioning capitalistic system you need proper regulatory oversight. The reason Europe's not having a shortage isn't because it's more capitalistic than the US. It's not having a shortage because in this matter it has better oversight and regulation of this vital industry.
So the answer is more globalism and destruction of American business? Maybe the answer is less regulation of US business?
Thank you President Biden, for jumping to action to put a short term patch on the crisis you caused! Your servants are eternally grateful!
Looking forward to invading Switzerland to end their stranglehold on global baby formula supply.
I read Atlas Shrugged in 2021 and it was spooky how close to real life it was.
Excuse me there is no reason why we don't have more than one manufacturers, maybe there is a reason the government. This craziness just driving us further into the globalist canal's plan.
It's fine to have some foreign made stuff in our market for competition sake, but it can go to far. Almost all electronic devices need semi conductor chips and all of our advanced chips are made in Taiwan which in a perfect and peaceful world, would be fine. However right next door across the strait is communist china, who has been threatening and preparing for war to unite the island with the mainland. If war did break out we would face a global supply shock worse than what we are feeling right now, government is flawed but that doesn't mean the free market would make us shortage/shock proof.
This video answered a question I've had ever since this story broke. Why are we flying C-17's to Europe to bring baby formula back when we could have just loaded it on container ships and imported it from the beginning? It's clearly a case of government creating a problem, then presenting itself as the solution to that problem.
100% WRONG! A few babies got sick and 1 died because of an extremely common bacteria found in water supplies. The FDA investigated producers of baby formula. They found 1 company that failed to complete their paperwork properly. While the company did show they found contaminants and killed it, they did not properly list what bacteria they found and eliminated. An overzealous FDA ignored the fact that the contamination did not come from formula and shut down production leading to the shortage. You did not do your research ReasonTV! You are no different than the GOP or DNC. Your insert your personal ideology into every issue in an attempt to reframe the argument. I'm done with you.
Hihihihih
Its very interesting how people are genuinely afraid of some bad practices and government do actually nothing about it write random words that proved to be wrong several times by experiments and many individual investigation. And people get relaxed as nothing has been actually done but some words printed on products and price increase . People can be manipulated quite easily.
It’s almost as if everything has been done this way on purpose to create harsh economic times and plaque fears….
Then the corporate government will come forward with a savior solution. CBDC’s and “vaccine” passports which will soon become social credit scoring. They’ll change the names and call them “convenient and easy”.
It will be indentured servitude.
